Sports mouthguards are custom-made rubber coverings worn over your teeth to protect them from damage. You should wear a professionally-made sports mouthguard at all times when playing any sport involving moving objects or physical contact.
Mouthguards cushion the teeth and gums and help to avoid chipped and broken teeth. If you are hit in the mouth by a ball during a game, it can lead to serious tooth or jaw damage - and even tooth loss. Professional athletes are often seen wearing mouthguards for this reason.
First, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth and gums so your mouthguard can be made to fit your smile exactly.
Then, the lab will create your custom sports mouthguard to your dentist’s specifications.
When we receive your finished mouthguard, we will schedule an appointment to make sure your guard fits you properly.
You should wear it at all times playing or training for sports. Because children’s mouths are growing, their mouthguards will need regular replacement for proper fit. Adults will also need to replace their mouthguards periodically due to wear and tear.
